On Saturday, March 24th, 1,050 volunteers joined us to pack over 270,00 meals for the orphans and vulnerable children of Zambia. This means that 1,050 children will be given nutrient-rich, protein-filled food for an entire year!

The cost of these meals is only 30 cents – a small price to pay to ensure a child is able to attend school without the distraction of a hungry stomach.

Each volunteer represented at Feed ONE personally packed 258 meals – a total of $77 worth of food. We need your help to ensure that these life-changing meals are delivered to a child in Zambia.

Your donation of $77 will ensure that the efforts of each volunteer at Feed ONE is carried on to Zambia. Join us by making a contribution today!

Make a donation

We know God will certainly multiply your contribution – just as we saw Jesus multiple the loaves and the fish in His ministry here on earth. Your gift of time and treasure sets into motion a powerful ripple effect starting with just ONE child.

Thank you for Feeding ONE and impacting the nation of Zambia – ONE child at a time!

Dream Camp is a week-long camp at the Tree of Life Children’s Village. We held our first official Dream Camp at the end of December 2011. It was truly a homerun with both the Americans who attended and the children who live at the Tree of Life! We had almost 200 children with 10 classes going simultaneously. The kids rotated between groups and all of them were introduced to new skills they had not yet had the opportunity to experience.

“I love Dream Camp! Building Pinewood Derby cars with the boys in the Tree of Life Children’s Village was a remarkable experience. You realize how gifted these kids are when you see what they can do with a simple block of wood. Dream Camp is where you get to see the potential of these kids being realized.”

– Frank Wright, two time alumni, came with his daughter Bethany.

We had a great variety of classes; basketball, baseball (on the hilltop… it was beautiful!), American football, a pinewood derby class, cheerleading, ballet, music with recorders, arts and crafts (the girls made headbands, barrettes and scarves!), drawing and library time with reading classics and singing songs. The kids were just drinking it all in! Each day we began with an opening session where we sang Camp LIFE songs, with our head Tree of Life Pastor and some of the older boys leading devotionals. One night, we were able to take the kids up to the Legacy Center for Movie Night — an over-the-top FUN experience — let’s just say that ALL kids love Veggie Tales!!! During the movie, we served the kids popcorn and Christmas M&M’s, a much desired treat!

“My daughter Berkely (age 24) and I went to Zambia together to help the orphans in our small way that we knew little about. We left with a special connection to their past and present, knowing that Christ is changing their lives through this ministry. We also left with a greater love for each other and the knowledge of how blessed we are in the United States.”

– Tom Ball, first time to Zambia, came with his daughter.

On Friday, we had all the children participate in a grand recital of the various new talents they had learned. We closed the whole week out with the 3rd graders playing the Zambian National Anthem on recorders and the entire group of Tree of Life kids singing along on stage! We then headed down to the house area and had a really fun field day where the kids got to enjoy participating in sack races, balloon games, funny relays and more! The kids got tons of stickers the whole week long and had a wonderful time.

“I loved participating in Dream Camp! It was so much fun to work with the kids making things that they were so excited to learn. Their smiles and excitement every day kept me smiling. I look forward to getting to do this again. I look at my pictures and videos daily from the trip. Even though we were there to lead and teach the kids, I left with so many lessons learned also. My heart was forever changed!”

- Teri Johnson, first time to Zambia.

I am so excited about where God is taking us with this new venture in ministering to our very own kids in a deeper more profound way. With all the additional homes opening this summer, the Dream Camp in August will be a great way to help the newly rescued children to become acclimated to their new way of life!

“To me, Dream Camp was a way to tangibly show God’s unfailing love to the kids through teaching something that is very close to my heart. I loved seeing the growth and the change in personality of the groups that I was able to work with. Being given the opportunity to love on these kids is such a privilege and as usual, left me longing to stay.”

- Lindsay Sockwell, multi-year alumni and summer staffer, came with her boyfriend.

This blog was written by our Vice President, Holly Scurry.

Opening my Dad’s House (John’s House)

Those of you who know me, know that my life drastically changed two and a half years ago. While in Zambia, hosting Camp LIFE for our beloved Zambian orphans, I found out my father, John Scurry, had been diagnosed with an acute form of leukemia. After days of testing, the doctors told my family that he had less than 6 months to live… A few days after my family learned all of this devastating news, I was able to set up a Video Skype call so that I could see and talk to my dad. For 30 minutes I talked to him and told him how much I loved him and how I was still in Zambia serving the orphans and teaching them about John 3:16 — his favorite verse. I am positive he heard every word I was saying, but the best he could do in response was to give me just one sweet nod of his head.

Four short days later Dad passed on into glory… My sister Heather called and told me the news at 5:00 in the morning, and my very first thought was that I was so happy for Dad because he was in the presence of JESUS! The main thing so telling of my dad was that he truly loved the Lord and he loved bringing joy to children. His favorite bible verse was John 3:16, and while for many of us that is just a “fall-back” favorite verse when we can’t think of another, for my dad, it really was his favorite and it summarizes the GREAT love our Father in Heaven has for His children. How amazing it is to me that God decided to usher my dad into Heaven in the very midst of our annual Camp LIFE program to the kids in Zambia where we were preaching each day on that very verse! God knew that rather than being by my dad’s side when he left this world, I needed to be by the side of the orphans in Zambia preaching the VERY words my dad lived by. This is what my “Daddeo” would have wanted, his daughter bringing the life and love of Jesus to the children who had already lost their fathers.

I was on the next plane ride out of Lusaka and cried the entire way home. The only other time in my life when I cried this hard and experienced such deep pain, sadness, and loss, was a few years prior when my beloved child Lahema suddenly died in Zambia from the destructive disease of AIDS. I still tear up to this day when I look at her precious face.

When I arrived home, my family and I all felt led to build a house in memory of our dad at The Tree of Life Children’s Village — John’s House. In God-like fashion, two years to the EXACT day of my father’s passing into glory, the Lord brought the final amount of money to build John’s House. God is in EVERY detail! He never ceases to amaze me, and I am humbled and thankful to be a part of what He is doing through Family Legacy as I personally watch His precision to the tiniest aspects of His work.

Over Christmas this year, our whole family flew over to Zambia to open John’s House, along with two other homes. How profound it was for all of us to be there together — humbly being a part of rescuing these 14 beloved children who’ve suffered untold pain in their short lives to this point — all the while leaving a legacy of NEW and ABUNDANT life in Jesus Christ for these orphaned children in honor of our dad. Price tag on that?? Priceless. This was truly the BEST Christmas of my entire life, and I praise Jesus for orchestrating all of it.

After all the pain I have been through with unexpectedly losing my dad two years earlier, being able to be in Zambia when my dad’s house at the Tree of Life Children’s Village opened was absolutely surreal. I know that my earthly father and heavenly father were looking down with utter delight as precious orphans now have a safe, clean, fun and perfect place to live. We all — Americans & current Tree of Life kids together — had a fantastic time getting the three new homes ready for the 42 children who walked into “Heaven on Earth” that day. Two girls (Ngambo and Nduwa, who now live in John’s House) were literally sleeping on a potato sack outside their older sister’s tent in the middle of a place called Buseko Market, an area in Lusaka where the poverty is virtually unbearable to witness. These two cousins (12 & 13 years old) were getting raped almost on a nightly basis by drunkards in the area. When they came to the Tree of Life and realized they were entering into a whole new life, the girls were completely ecstatic! I’m tearing up right now just writing this. The first thing they did was take a shower to get completely clean, and then they tried on every new outfit over and over again. They LOVED the clean clothes and the warm water and their very own beds….it was so precious. Can I just say that I LOVE my job?! I LOVE IT! The younger boys and girls were just as priceless as they could be. The little girls ran into their princess room and started playing dress up and playing with their toys and new dolls. One of these little girls Magondwa and her brother Moses have AIDS and have been abused since before they can remember…praise God that devastating abuse will be no more and that they will now receive the life-saving ARV’s through their sponsorship! We all enjoyed cookies and milk and played games beside the Christmas tree, while the current children at the Tree of Life began to welcome and get to know their new friends.

The whole process was very touching for my family, and permanently life-changing to say the least. Praise God that He is not only changing our lives, but He is passionately changing the nation of Zambia, “one child at a time”, through the incredible work of Family Legacy Missions!! Romans 8:28 really is so true and has been played out in my life time and time again — “And we know that God causes ALL things to work together for HIS good, for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.”

Please watch the slideshow below to see some of the sweet moments captured during my time in Zambia this past Christmas!

We have great news to report from the Lifeway Christian Academy at the Tree of Life Children’s Village! ALL of our seventh grade students passed their government issued exam!

For many children in Zambia, this test marks the conclusion of their education as they have been poorly prepared to complete the exam with success. By opening schools in Zambia, we hope to change this reality – one student at a time.

Our kids at the Tree of Life are always sharing their dreams for the future. “I want to be a doctor.” “I want to be a teacher.” What a blessing that they are excelling academically and growing spiritually to truly become the next doctors, teachers and leaders of Zambia.

God is raising up a new generation and He is using the Tree of Life and the support of incredible sponsors to provide the necessary tools these children need to succeed. It is a miracle that children who were once abused, neglected, and starving, have been given a second chance at life, a chance to truly be who the Lord designed them to be. Thank you so much to everyone who has taken part in transforming these children’s lives. Your investment in His kingdom is truly reaping great rewards!

This week we are sharing a story of success about one of our boys sponsored through the Father's Heart program. Continue reading

This story is about a fourteen year old boy named Levy Tembo. Levy is a single orphaned child whose father passed away at a young age. This left a gigantic burden on Levy’s mother, forcing them into a life of poverty with no money for school fees for Levy and his siblings. In 2006, his mother felt that she had no choice, but to remarry with hopes to secure a more stable income for her family. The marriage only brought pain and abuse continuing to leave Levy without an education and a future.

Thankfully, God allowed Family Legacy to meet sweet Levy at Camp LIFE. He later went on to be sponsored in Family Legacy’s Father’s Heart program. Levy is now a new child full of life and opportunity! A child who was once desperate to attend school is now attending one of the top schools in Zambia!

Levy’s family was overjoyed that he was able to benefit from the Father’s Heart Program. He could not believe that someone wanted to sponsor him. When asked about Levy’s sponsorship, his mother stated “I am so thankful for the support I have received and I am very happy that my son is in school – God bless you!”

What a blessing sponsorships are to thousands of children just like Levy who are hungry for education and a future outside the walls of the slums they call home. Once they learn that they are sons and daughters of the King, Jesus Christ, they are overjoyed with the vast opportunities they have ahead of them.

Thank you to all of our sponsors, your prayers and financial support are the reason these children are given new lives in Christ.

This week we are highlighting one of our American staff members, Lindsey Beasley, who sponsors a child at the Tree of Life. Continue reading

This week we are highlighting one of our American staff members, Lindsey Beasley. She and her husband Luke sponsor Evans, a precious two year old boy living at the Tree of Life. When they heard the heartbreaking story about little Evans and his two older brothers, Akim (8) and Timothy (5), they knew they had to take action.

Evans and his brothers lived in a slum compound in Lusaka. Their father has been absent their entire lives and their mother was mentally ill and frequently left the boys alone for days without a thought for their well-being. These sweet boys were unwanted, forgotten and abandoned. They had never known the loving embrace of a parent or really anyone for that matter.

At that time it was Akim’s responsibility as the oldest to provide food for his little brothers. One day when he was out begging he returned home to find that their mother had lit their house on fire while the two youngest were inside. Akim frantically ran inside and saved his two younger siblings. What a tragedy to think that at eight years old this child was having to act like an adult, sacrificing his own life for the sake of his siblings.

Can you imagine what it must feel like to have your own mother trying to end your life? Someone that you have always trusted turning their back on you and trying to kill you? As if the suffering they had endured through starvation was not enough their own mother was blatantly trying to end their lives.

Our God rescued these three boys out of deadly circumstances and took them into a place they can call home through Family Legacy. Now all three boys live at the Tree of Life, where love is restored, healing is taking place and lives are renewed through Jesus Christ. They went from a life of starvation, abuse and neglect to a life of hope and a bright future; a life where they can FINALLY be a kid. For the first time in their lives they feel safe, wanted and cared for.

Luke and Lindsay see their sponsorship as an investment, not only in the life of this precious child but into the Lord’s kingdom. Sponsoring a child at the Tree of Life is truly serving “the least of these,” referred to in Matthew 25:40.

As Lindsey told me about the joy her sponsorship brings her she stated, “I cannot explain the true joy and genuine excitement that I feel in my heart when little Evans sees me from across the field and his tiny legs move as fast as they can bringing him into my arms.” Sponsoring Evans has given Lindsey and Luke a new perspective on unconditional love and their personal relationships with Christ.

In Zambia there are one million orphans. Many children just like Evans are still in need of love and care. God knows each orphan by name and He wants them all to experience this love.
